Following a formal press briefing held on the 23rd of March, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, the Nigeria Police Force officially announces the commencement of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations. Acting on behalf of the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, the Force PRO outlined a week-long series of activities scheduled to begin on Monday, 30th March 2026, culminating in a Grand Finale on Tuesday, 7th April 2026. According to the statement, this year’s theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflects the Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the public, enhancing transparency, and building sustainable trust as the foundation for effective policing.
It further stated: “To ensure the successful execution of this national event, an organizing committee has been constituted. The committee is headed by AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel (AIG CTU), with DCP Anthony Okon Placid, psc(+), mni (Force PRO) serving as the Committee Secretary. The team comprises senior officers from key operational departments, including the FCID, PMF, EOD-CBRN, and Medical Services.
“Schedule of Activities:
“•Monday, 30th March (Day 1): Nationwide environmental sanitation exercises and free medical services for the public, with a focus on vulnerable groups.
•Tuesday, 31st March (Day 2): A National Walkathon held in State Capitals across the country to promote unity and strengthen Police-community relations.
•Wednesday, 1st April (Day 3): Public sensitization campaigns focusing on the dangers of electoral violence and the importance of safe driving practices.
•Thursday, 2nd April (Day 4): Honouring fallen heroes through the presentation of cheques to their families at the Force Headquarters and across various State Commands.
•Tuesday, 7th April (Grand Finale): A Ceremonial Parade at Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring tactical displays by specialized units including the PMF, K-9, EOD, and CTU, demonstrating the operational readiness of the Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to people-centered policing anchored on trust and mutual respect. We invite community leaders, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to join us for these scheduled activities,”it also added.
