The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday marked the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day with a colourful parade and procession at Eagle Square, Abuja, showcasing personnel from various units, formations, and commands.
The event featured a ceremonial parade involving officers of the Police alongside other security and paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), underscoring enhanced inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the ceremony was attended by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside top government officials, security chiefs, and former Inspectors-General of Police.
In his remarks as Reviewing Officer, President Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, commended the Police for their resilience and dedication to duty, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening reforms, improving operational capacity, and enhancing personnel welfare.
In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the occasion as an opportunity to honour fallen officers and reinforce the core values of discipline, professionalism, and service.
He emphasised the need for a more accountable, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented Police Force, assuring Nigerians of sustained efforts to improve policing standards and public trust.
The week-long celebration featured activities such as a nationwide walkathon, community service projects, medical outreach programmes, public sensitisation campaigns, and the presentation of welfare cheques to families of fallen officers.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism, service excellence, and the protection of lives and property, as it continues efforts to meet the nation’s security needs.
