The Director General of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has hosted the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE), Muhammad Sani Idris, and his delegation at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, Idris highlighted critical challenges facing the Almajiri system, including parental neglect, widespread street begging, vulnerability to exploitation, and the rising number of out-of-school children across Nigeria. He called for NITDA’s collaboration in addressing these issues through digital education and skills development.
In response, Inuwa proposed the deployment of NITDA’s “Digital Literacy for All” initiative using the Commission’s existing structures to expand access and impact.
Key strategies discussed include engaging NYSC members as digital literacy champions, integrating digital skills training into Almajiri centres, and establishing digital learning hubs to provide both basic and advanced competencies.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging technology as a tool for inclusive education and national development. A joint committee has been set up to drive the implementation of the partnership.
