In the evening of 18th April 2026, Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili south Local Government Area. The team successfully arrested three armed suspects, rescued a kidnapped victim, and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects. This was contained in a statement signed by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command.
The three suspects arrested at the scene, all males include: Chidalu Obi 25 years, Chichebem Ojenigbo 26 years, and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20 years respectively.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job. Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held captive.
Meanwhile, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information.
