NEMA Mobilises for Arrival of Nigerians Evacuated from South Africa

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has activated reception arrangements for Nigerian citizens being evacuated from the Republic of South Africa, ahead of their arrival in the country.

According to the agency, the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, has directed the deployment of the agency’s response team to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to receive the returnees in collaboration with other relevant government agencies and stakeholders.

The first batch of the evacuees is scheduled to depart O.R. Tambo International Airport on Wednesday night is expected to arrive in Nigeria in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, 2026, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

NEMA said the activation of its response mechanism is aimed at ensuring a smooth reception process and providing the necessary support for the returnees upon arrival.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the safe and orderly reception of Nigerians returning from South Africa.
