The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP) joined the rest of the world to mark Customer Service Week today 9 October, 2026 at the Ministry’s Premises. This was contained in a statement signed by Julie Osagie Jacobs, Director, Information and Public Relations.
Two Staff Mrs. Olufunmilayo Adewinle of the Human Resource Mananagement (HRM) Department and Mr. Dauda Samson of Information and Communcations (ICT) Department emerged the best staff in the Ministry for their dedication to duty, courtesy, outstanding performance and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Permanent Secretary Dr. Deborah Odoh while delivering her speech on the occasion, urged Staff to renew their commitment to a customer – centred culture by improving their processes, reduce unnecessary delays, embrace innovation and technology, strengthen accountability and ensure that services meet established standards.
Odoh encouraged all staff to uphold the values of integrity, courtesy, empathy, teamwork, discipline, responsiveness and continuous improvement. She was represented at the occasion by the Director International Cooperation Dr. Sampson Ebimaro.
Mrs. Lucy Zach -Ukoh of the Servicom Office in the Presidency while delivering her paper on, “The Extra Mile” Master Class urged staff to be involved in the collective responsibility of delivering the Ministry’s mandates. She called on Staff to go the extra mile by showing empathy and patience to vulnerable customers and taking ownership of issues until they are fully resolved.
She also enjoined Staff to improve Service processes through innovation and staff initiative while demonstrating professionalism even under pressure or peak service hours.
According to her, the theme, “The Extra Mile” was chosen to elevate service delivery across Nigeria as it captures the essence of what modern public service must become, that is being proactive, innovative and consistently committed to exceeding customer expectations
It also presents an opportunity for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to reaffirm their commitments to service excellence by celebrating staff, engaging customers and strengthening collaboration.”
The Deputy Director Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, Mrs. Elizabeth Akpan noted that this year’s theme reminded staff that excellent customer service goes beyond simply performing assigned duties but going the extra mile to do more than expected, taking initiative, and making deliberate efforts to ensure that those we serve have a positive experience.
