The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the reported Houthi militia attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which allegedly claimed 12 civilian lives and left more than 300 people injured.
In a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria described the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety, violates Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and undermines efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Nigerian government called on all parties to respect international law, exercise restraint and refrain from further actions capable of escalating tensions, endangering civilians or damaging critical infrastructure.
Nigeria also expressed solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia, extending its deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wishing the injured a speedy and full recovery.
The Federal Government emphasised the need to respect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while upholding international obligations to protect civilian lives and safeguard critical infrastructure.
Nigeria commended the Saudi Arabian government for its prompt emergency response following the incident and acknowledged its continued efforts to protect the security and well-being of its citizens.
The statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to diplomatic engagement and constructive dialogue as essential tools for advancing international peace and security.
It added that Nigeria supports genuine efforts to de-escalate tension, protect civilian lives and critical infrastructure, and promote lasting peace and stability across the Middle East.
