The Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Dr. Bernard M. Doro has said that, Nigeria is reforming the humanity landscape to lift up the vulnerable out of poverty, reduce the burden of social crisis and help them to stabilize and become contributors to the country’s economy. This was contained in a statement signed by Janet McDickson Noah, Director, Information and Public Relations.

The Honorable Minister made this known when a delegation from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Nigeria, paid him a courtesy visit in his office 26th-10-2026.

He appreciates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, whose Renewed Hope Agenda is geared towards lifting up the poor out of poverty, hence, he said, the office is working to meet its vision and mission. Dr. Doro said, One Humanitarian One Poverty Reduction System (OHOPRS) programme is awaiting the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval, adding that, it is a system that connects humanitarian social protection from when it starts to the end. It is a poverty graduation pathway he said.

OHOPRS he said, is a system that coordinates all interventions at the Federal and Sub nationals for greater synergy and much results. He said, the Ministry is working on 20 models that will help identify the vulnerables, leverage them through the pathways to stabilization.

Dr. Doro said, the Ministry is targeting twelve (12) thousand out of school children to be trained using special tools adding that, most of such children might have outgrown normal school teaching stage, hence, it has to be a special way of teaching them thereafter, they will be certified for certain jobs and contribute their quota to the economy. This, he said, will cost USD 20,000,000 (twenty million USD). Adding that, four foundations have indicated interest to support the programme.

He called on those in Diaspora to support the programme by liaising with the office to lift up the vulnerables out of poverty. He advocated for a National Economic Trust Fund and hopes, that the Federal Government, Development Partners and all philanthropists to come together and fund the trust fund for the sake of humanity.

He appreciates the (IOM) contributions for humanity services in Nigeria and congratulated them for the great feat in the last 25 years. He hopes that, the next 25years will be more fruitful and beneficial to all humanity as they partner with the Ministry.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Regional Director, IOM West and Central Africa Ms Sylvia Ekra said, the progress IOM made in Nigeria has to do with a friendly partnership with the Government and People of Nigeria with particular reference to the Ministry. She appreciates the Hon. Minister’s vision and leadership style, and hopes to support the Ministry in the implementation of OHOPRS programmes and to support the humanitarian trust fund.
