The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has tasked the newly decorated Controller-General of Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Adeyemi on transforming the sector for quality service delivery in tune with the digital age.

The Minister stated this on Thursday when he decorated the new FFS boss at a ceremony held at the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) Secretariat in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo told the new CG that the quality of a true leader was to be focused, courageous, and determined not only to improve service delivery but to serve Nigerians wholeheartedly.

“Picture where FFS is today and picture where it needs to be because you will be judged by how well you can transform the service.

“Your job is to service Nigerians; FFS is meant to be one of the most impactful agencies of this country. Don’t expect to have 100 per cent support of your men and if you wait for that you will never do the right thing as leadership is the conviction of doing what is right so don’t think everyone will support you,” the charged the new CG.

Already, the minister disclosed that the National Assembly is currently working on a fire service law because the one in existence has become obsolete and no longer in conformity with current trends.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, called on the new FFS boss to always uphold truth and the laws of the country in the discharge of his duties, especially to the Federal Government and Nigerians.

“Be yourself, work in line with the extant laws of the country, and put the country first. You will have 100 per cent support from the ministry and your colleagues. So, I appeal to Nigerians not to put this new CG under pressure as his job is not to award contracts that will make him compromise,” Ajani said.

In his response, the FFS boss expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister for the appointment, promising total commitment to work deli gently in line with the Nigerian constitution and the mandate of the service better he met it.

“We will do our best by not disappointing the president and Nigerians,” CG Adeyemi assured.
