The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adewale Ajao, has stressed the imperative of moral values and virtues in crime prevention in Nigeria, especially in Abuja. Ajao called on grassroots communities to collaborate with security agencies in the fight against crime across the country.
The FCT Police boss stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting themed “You Against Crime” in Abuja.
According to Ajao, the current level of crime in Nigeria can not be tackled by security agencies alone.
He urged communities to instil moral values and virtues as a means of preventing crime.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of You Against Crime (YACI), Tayo Folorunsho, in his speech at the event, stressed the importance of youth engagement in crime fighting through the promotion of local values and cultural practices.
Mr. Tayo Folorunsho has over 15 years of experience working with youths and communities. According to Folorunsho, YACI reflects lifelong commitment to mentorship, empowerment, and opportunity creation.
One of YACI’s core strategies is the use of culture as a powerful tool in the fight against crime. By reconnecting with traditional values, languages, and heritage, the initiatives promote discipline, respect, and responsibility.
Other stakeholders spoke in like manner, highlighting the critical role of community and family values as the foundation for effective crime prevention in Nigeria.
The official unveiling of the “You Against Crime” initiative, which was the highlight of the event reinforces the message that fighting crime is a collective responsibility not one that rests solely on the shoulders of security agencies.
