The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 4,445,505 Nigerians have completed their online pre-registration within just four weeks of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 15, 2025, the Commission commended citizens for their commitment, noting that women currently account for 51.83% of registrants, while young people aged 18 to 34 constitute the largest demographic at 65.79%.
So far, 509,929 Nigerians have finalised their registration through both online and in-person processes, with youths again taking the lead, representing 74.15% of completed registrations.
Students make up nearly 39% of this figure, reflecting strong interest from first-time voters.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, described Nigerians’ responses as a sign of readiness to shape the country’s democratic future.
The response from Nigerians, especially young people and women, is highly encouraging. This momentum demonstrates the growing determination of citizens to participate in shaping the nation’s democratic future, Olumekun said.
In Abuja, online pre-registration for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also ended on September 15.
Announcing that eligible residents will now be able to register physically at designated centres for two weeks before the exercise extends to all 62 wards across the FCT from September 29 to October 8, 2025.
The Commission further disclosed that detailed breakdowns of the registration figures, covering states, gender, age, occupation, and disability status have been published on its official platforms to ensure transparency.
