The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on Wednesday sealed off Bond Chemicals Industries Limited in Oyo State for violating national environmental regulations.

The enforcement action, according to a statement issued by the Assistant Director Press, Nwamaka Ejiofor, follows a public complaint and independent verification of the facility’s discharge of untreated effluent into the environment.

A compliance inspection by NESREA’s South West Zonal Office on February 18, 2026, revealed the facility lacked a functional Effluent Treatment Plant and was discharging untreated wastewater with an offensive odour, contravening environmental standards.

Despite directives to abate the nuisance, a follow-up inspection shows that the facility failed to comply with the Agency’s directives.

Consequently, NESREA, in exercise of its statutory mandate, sealed the facility to safeguard public health and the environment from further environmental degradation.

NESREA Director General, Prof. Innocent Bariko stated that all industry operators must comply with environmental regulations, including installing pollution control equipment.

The agency will intensify monitoring and enforcement nationwide, applying sanctions against violators, he said.

Bond Chemicals Industries Limited will remain closed until full compliance is achieved.

According to the statement, Bond Chemicals Industries will remain sealed until it achieves full compliance as further investigations are ongoing to certify it compliance with the directives.

NESREA has been cracking down on environmental violators, sealing 29 facilities in Southwest Nigeria for similar infractions, including lack of environmental documents and improper waste management, in accordance with its mandates.
