The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, FNIPR, has called on APC Commissioners of Information across the states to strengthen collaboration, coordinate government communication and effectively project the policies and achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Idris made the call on Thursday, at a meeting with APC Commissioners of Information in Abuja. This was contained in a statement signed by Rabiu Ibrahim, mnipr, Special Assistant on Media to the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation.

The Minister described effective communication as a critical instrument of governance, stressing the need to ensure that Nigerians understand the objectives, challenges and expected benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the administration’s reforms were aimed at strengthening the economy, expanding opportunities, improving infrastructure and advancing national development.

“Effective communication is no longer optional. It is an essential instrument of leadership, governance and public engagement,” he stated.

Idris urged the Commissioners to strengthen communication networks between federal and state institutions, share verified information and deploy traditional and digital platforms to reach citizens. He also warned against misinformation and disinformation, emphasising that credibility, transparency and responsible engagement were essential to sustaining public confidence.

“Our greatest asset is public trust, and that trust can only be sustained through accuracy, transparency, consistency and responsible engagement,” the Minister declared.

He further stressed the importance of listening to citizens, understanding public sentiment and incorporating feedback into government communication strategies, describing the meeting as an opportunity to build a sustained partnership among information managers.

“Effective communication is a two-way process. We must pay attention to citizens’ concerns, understand public sentiment and ensure that feedback informs how government engages with the people,” Idris said.

The meeting was attended by 20 Commissioners of Information from APC-led states, who joined the Minister for discussions on strengthening intergovernmental communication, information coordination and public engagement.
