The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has trained members of staff on the deployment of emerging technologies to improve the tracking of rights violations, strengthen evidence management, and enhance timely justice delivery for victims.

The two-day training, organised by the Commission’s Human Rights Institute, brought together officers from various departments to build capacity in digital tools for data management, report writing, financial accountability, and rights-based research.

Declaring the training open, the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Tony Ojukwu, said technology must be harnessed to improve service delivery and deepen access to justice.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at reducing delays, securing evidence, and ensuring that victims of human rights abuses receive prompt and effective redress. He added that the true measure of the training’s success would be reflected in stronger protection for Nigerians whose rights are violated.

Participants were drawn from all departments of the Commission, including the Office of the Executive Secretary, to promote collaboration and ensure uniform standards in the application of digital tools across the institution.

Staff members who participated in the training commended the Commission’s management for the digital capacity-building initiative, noting that the knowledge gained would improve case file management, support tamper-proof data systems, and accelerate report generation.

They expressed optimism that the deployment of emerging technologies would enhance operational efficiency, reduce delays in handling complaints, and make it more difficult for perpetrators of rights violations to evade accountability.

The training formed part of the Commission’s broader efforts to leverage innovation and digital transformation in strengthening human rights protection and institutional effectiveness in Nigeria.
