The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s criminal justice system.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP made the call on April 21, 2026, during a strategic courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Abuja.
The visit, the statement noted, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance inter-agency cooperation within the criminal justice architecture, particularly in the areas of intelligence sharing, custodial security, and coordinated justice administration.
IGP Disu stressed the importance of strong institutional synergy between the Police and Correctional Service, noting that effective collaboration is essential for improving investigative outcomes, reducing delays in prosecution, and strengthening national security.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting reforms within the correctional system and enhancing operational coordination across the justice value chain.
In his response, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CG Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, commended the IGP for the visit, describing it as a historic gesture and noting that he is the first serving Inspector-General of Police to officially visit the Service Headquarters.
Nwakuche said the visit reflects a strong commitment to inter-agency cooperation and criminal justice reform, adding that improved intelligence sharing and custodial security management remain critical to national security.
He also called for enhanced joint training programmes between both agencies to improve professionalism, efficiency, and coordination within the justice system.
The Police Force said the engagement marks a renewed drive toward strengthening institutional partnerships aimed at improving the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice administration.
