Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen defence cooperation and enhance intelligence sharing between the two countries. This was contained in a statement signed by Queeneth Iheoma-Hart (CIO), For: Director, Information and Public Relations.

The MoU was signed on Sunday, 10th May 2026, in Amman by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence H. E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, and Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces.

The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in intelligence exchange, defence capability development, counter-terrorism, joint military training, defence research and industry, as well as mutual support for regional and global peace and security.

Dr. Matawalle described the MoU as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jordan relations, stressing that defence cooperation is critical to addressing contemporary security challenges.

“Nigeria and Jordan recognise the value of mutually beneficial cooperation and remain committed to deepening defence ties to promote peace, security, and stability within our respective regions,” he said.

The Minister also emphasised the importance of technology transfer through the establishment of a production line in Nigeria, in line with the provisions of the DICON Act.

The MoU reflects the commitment of both nations to cooperate in good faith, strengthen mutual trust, and advance joint action on shared security priorities.
