Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another operational success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in Nigeria’s North-West, rescuing six kidnapped victims after intercepting suspected terrorists transporting their captives in Sokoto State.
The operation occurred in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area, where troops on counter-terrorism patrol encountered three suspected terrorists travelling on motorbikes with kidnapped civilians believed to have been abducted from Kure village.
According to military sources, the terrorists abandoned the victims and fled into the surrounding area immediately after sighting the advancing troops, leaving the captives unharmed. The swift response by the soldiers prevented what could have been a prolonged ordeal for the victims.
The rescued individuals were identified as Usman (24), Baba Usman (56), Hassan (22), Sunusi (23), Abdullahi Yahaya (28), and Sule (15).
Military authorities said the victims are currently receiving necessary care, while arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.
The successful rescue underscores the sustained pressure being mounted by Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist and kidnapping networks operating across the North-West.
In recent months, the operation has intensified intelligence-driven patrols, clearance operations, and rapid response missions aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts, disrupting movement corridors, and securing vulnerable communities.
Security analysts note that the latest rescue highlights the effectiveness of proactive troop deployments and persistent military presence in areas frequently targeted by kidnappers, particularly along rural transit routes in Sokoto and neighbouring states.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to reassure residents of their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements while encouraging communities to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
The rescue of the six victims adds to the growing list of successful operations by Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reflecting ongoing efforts to restore security, protect lives, and create a safer environment for communities across the North-West.
