A joint delegation comprising the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS (EU), the Embassy of Switzerland, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), UN agencies and implementing partners has concluded a technical visit to Yobe State, Northeast, Nigeria.

The next leg of the visitation is Adamawa state to strengthen resilience and promote durable solutions to the challenges facing the states and the broader north eastern region.

A joint statement EU, ECOWAS, Embassy of Switzerland, French Development Agency, and other partners said “the visit focused on reviewing progress, strengthening coordination with government authorities, and engaging communities benefiting from donor-supported interventions on durable solutions, resilience and economic recovery, and water resource management.”

It said the visit is part of “a broader joint mission to Yobe and Adamawa States from 5 to 10 July 2026, beginning with engagements in Yobe from 6 to 7 July 2026 before proceeding to Adamawa State.”

The mission was designed to re-engage state authorities, strengthen partnership and coordination across the three thematic areas, and visit project sites and beneficiaries.

During the Yobe leg of the mission, the delegation held technical engagements with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), the Durable Solutions Secretariat, state government authorities, consortia, and implementing partners in Damaturu. Discussions focused on implementation progress, coordination priorities, sustainability, and opportunities to further align donor-supported interventions with state-led recovery and development plans.

The delegation also visited the Maisandari Community to assess the proposed implementation site for the European Union-funded Support for Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria (SIDPIN) programme, implemented jointly by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The visit included an assessment of the land identified for the development of an integrated settlement for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities, as well as visits to education and primary health care facilities. The delegation also met with community leaders to discuss local priorities and reaffirm the programme’s commitment to sustainable local integration and durable solutions.

In Maisandari and Sumsumma, the delegation visited a Swiss Government-funded Durable Solutions project implemented by Save the Children, where they met with members of the Community Dialogue Committee/Peace Ambassadors and interacted with project participants engaged in livestock and crop production activities, highlighting efforts to strengthen household and community livelihoods. The delegation also met with members of the Community Early Warning and Anticipatory Action Committee (CEWAAC), underscoring the importance of community-led preparedness and resilience. The visit further included a tour of a Primary Health Care facility, where the delegation engaged with Mother-to-Mother Support Groups and the Tom Brown Group, showcasing community-based health and nutrition services and interventions aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable households and communities.

In addition, the delegation participated in the Inclusive Economic and Social Recovery in the Lake Chad Region (RESILAC 2 project) Yobe kick-off workshop in Damaturu, where the European Union, AFD, Action Against Hunger, CARE, national/local partners and Yobe State Government authorities, engaged on the project’s objectives and expected contribution to resilience, economic recovery and community stabilisation. The visit also included an engagement with the Hadejia-Jama’are Komadugu Yobe Trust Fund and a visit linked to the LACHAWAMA project implemented by GIZ, with discussions focused on water resource management, strategic priorities and ongoing interventions in Yobe State.
