The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, participated as a Special Guest at the 7th African Emerging Markets Forum (AEMF 2026) held at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters in Abuja.

The forum, themed “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” brought together policymakers, economists, development experts, financial sector stakeholders and private sector leaders to explore practical strategies for strengthening Africa’s economic resilience and promoting sustainable growth in an increasingly volatile global economy.

The participation of the NFIU highlighted the growing importance of financial intelligence in supporting sound economic governance, strengthening financial systems and protecting national economies against illicit financial activities.

As Nigeria’s financial intelligence agency, the NFIU plays a pivotal role in the detection and analysis of suspicious financial transactions, supporting anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing efforts while providing intelligence to law enforcement and other competent authorities.

The agency’s presence at the high-level forum underscored the significance of financial intelligence in safeguarding the integrity of the financial system, combating illicit financial flows and enhancing transparency and accountability within the economy.

Participants at the forum examined policy options for mitigating the impact of global economic shocks, deepening regional cooperation, attracting sustainable investment and strengthening institutions capable of driving inclusive economic development across Africa.

The event also provided a platform for robust dialogue on improving macroeconomic resilience, enhancing financial sector stability and promoting reforms that will position African economies for long-term competitiveness.

The NFIU’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national and continental efforts aimed at building resilient financial systems, strengthening investor confidence and fostering a transparent environment that encourages sustainable economic growth and development across Nigeria and Africa.
