As part of activities marking his transition to the next phase of his distinguished policing career, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, Mnips, PhD, today, 3rd August 2026, commenced a thank-you tour of stakeholders across Anambra State with a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Igwe Gibson Nwosu, OON, Eze Uzu II of Awka. This was contained in a statement signed by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
The statement reads: “The visit was aimed at expressing the AIG’s profound appreciation to the traditional institution and the people of Awka for their unwavering support, cooperation, and partnership throughout his tenure as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State.
“Speaking during the visit, AIG Orutugu thanked the monarch for his steadfast support for the Anambra State Police Command and other security agencies in promoting peace, security, and public safety in the state. He noted that the remarkable achievements recorded by the Command during his tenure were made possible through the collective efforts of the government, traditional institutions, community leaders, security stakeholders, and the good people of Anambra State.
“The AIG reaffirmed that sustainable security can only be achieved through continued collaboration among the Police, traditional rulers, and members of the public. He therefore appealed for sustained support for the Command and other security agencies in the collective effort to keep Anambra State safe and secure.
“In his response, HRM Igwe Gibson Nwosu congratulated AIG Orutugu on his well-deserved promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. He commended him for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and remarkable contributions to enhancing security and public confidence in policing during his tenure in Anambra State.
“The royal father wished AIG Orutugu continued success and God’s guidance as he assumes greater responsibilities in the next phase of his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force,” it also added.
