The Anambra State Police Command, on Monday, 3rd August 2026, commenced a series of activities in honour of the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, recently promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, as he celebrated his birthday and formal retirement from the Nigeria Police Force through a ceremonial Pull-Out Parade, and a State Executive Council send-forth ceremony organized by the Anambra State Government. This was contained in a statement signed by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
The statement reads: “The activities commenced on 3rd August 2026 with the celebration of the AIG’s birthday, which provided an opportunity to appreciate God’s faithfulness throughout his life and distinguished policing career. The occasion featured prayers and goodwill messages from heads of sister security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders who wished him good health, peace, and greater accomplishments in his future endeavours.
“As part of the events, the Anambra State Government on 5th August 2026, hosted AIG Orutugu at a State Executive Council Send-forth ceremony in recognition of his outstanding contributions to security, peace, and public safety in the State. The State Government acknowledged his collaborative approach to policing, strategic partnership with stakeholders, and unwavering commitment to combating crime and strengthening public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
“Speaking during the send forth ceremony, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, alongside other senior government functionaries described AIG Orutugu as an exceptional police officer whose tenure in Anambra State was marked by strengthened police-community relations, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, strategic security partnerships, and remarkable operational successes in the fight against crime and criminality.
“The activities also a colourful ceremonial Pull-Out Parade held at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, where officers and men of the Command, family members, retired senior police officers, traditional rulers, government officials, friends, and other distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the remarkable career and selfless service of the senior police officer.
“Conducted in line with the age-long traditions of the Nigeria Police Force, the ceremonial Pull-Out Parade symbolised the formal conclusion of AIG Orutugu’s distinguished career after decades of dedicated service to the nation. The ceremony featured the inspection of the parade, ceremonial procession, and conferment of policing honours, as well as goodwill messages from colleagues and stakeholders who commended his professionalism, exemplary leadership, operational excellence, and people-oriented policing philosophy.
“The Anambra State Police Command expresses profound appreciation to the Government and people of Anambra State, sister security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, community leaders, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout his tenure as Commissioner of Police, Anambra State.
“The Command wishes AIG Ikioye Orutugu, a happy birthday, excellent health, fulfilled retirement, and continued success in the next phase of his career. It also reassures the good people of Anambra State of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the security gains recorded under AIG Orutugu’s leadership, ” it also added.
