The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in close coordination with sister security agencies, sustained an unrelenting and comprehensive offensive across all operational theatres nationwide during the month of May 2026.
Guided by its constitutional mandate to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the military prosecuted coordinated land, air, and maritime operations.
These synchronized operations yielded landmark achievements of considerable strategic significance, completely destabilizing various criminal networks that sought to disrupt public peace.
Briefing the journalists at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Major General Michael Onoja, Director Defence Media Operations, disclosed that the military’s aggressive posture resulted in the neutralization of 317 terrorists and criminal elements.
Furthermore, the relentless pressure applied by the troops led to the arrest of 314 suspects and forced 18 terrorists to surrender unconditionally. This massive disruption of hostile personnel underscores the supreme combat readiness and operational superiority of the Nigerian military in safeguarding the nation.
In a major triumph for public safety and humanitarian welfare, the monthly operations also resulted in the rescue of 221 unlawfully abducted civilians from fortified insurgent enclaves.
Alongside these rescues, troops recovered 93 arms, dismantled 3 illegal refining sites, and seized 21,910 litres of assorted petroleum products from economic saboteurs. This resolute performance stands as an irrefutable testament to the strategic clarity and absolute institutional resolve of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
