Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and thwarted multiple kidnap attempts during coordinated counter-banditry operations in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said the operations were launched following credible intelligence and distress calls, leading to the successful rescue of the Rector, his wife, and two children after armed terrorists stormed their residence at Tsohon-Tasha Street.
According to the military, the attackers broke into the residence, killed the Rector’s private security guard, Malam Isah Bello, 46, and injured another guard, Sharhabilu Haruna, 35, before attempting to abduct the family. Troops responded swiftly, engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, and forced them to abandon their captives and flee.
In a separate operation, troops on patrol responded to another distress call from the Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji village, where suspected kidnappers were attempting to abduct residents. Despite difficult terrain, the troops pursued and engaged the fleeing suspects, successfully foiling the abduction.
The troops also confronted another group of kidnappers in the same community, rescuing a 56-year-old businessman, Alhaji Azaria, along with 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring homes.
During the operation at Tsohon-Tasha Street, security forces arrested a suspected informant, Falalu Yusuf, 45, who is believed to have collaborated with the terrorists. He has been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Kaura Namoda for further investigation.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their vigilance, courage, and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across Zamfara State. The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations.
