The ECOWAS Parliament has approved a 2025 community budget of 418,062,927 Units of Account (UA), allocating 18,696,897 UA to the Parliament, a 19.5% decrease from last year.

The ECOWAS Commission received 221,780,096 UA, while the West African Health Organization (WAHO) saw a 14.21% increase to 71,596,777 UA, boosting healthcare initiatives across the region.

The Parliament also called for an extension of the January 2025 deadline for Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to leave ECOWAS, urging more time for negotiations to prevent regional disintegration.

Ten Community Acts addressing energy, transport, and education were adopted, focusing on economic growth and regional integration.

Emphasis was also placed on increasing women’s participation in governance, with a renewed commitment to bridging the gender gap in leadership.

This budget reflects ECOWAS’s priorities in strengthening unity, healthcare, and inclusive development for a resilient West Africa.
