The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed a false reports circulating on social media claiming that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, assuring parents and guardians that students and staff of the school are safe.
In a statement signed on Monday, 20th July 2026, by Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, , the Ministry described the reports as “entirely false, irresponsible and misleading,” warning that such misinformation was capable of creating unnecessary panic, fear and anxiety among parents and the public.
The Ministry noted that there was no attack on the school, stressing that all students, staff, and boarding facilities remain safe and fully accounted for.
According to the statement, academic activities, boarding operations, and other school programmes are continuing without disruption in a peaceful and secure environment.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa reaffirmed that the safety, security, and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government.
He noted that FGGC, Monguno, operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff, and school facilities.
The Minister also clarified that no student of the college was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the institution on social media.
He explained that those affected were remedial students outside the college, adding that the Borno State Government had already taken necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry urged journalists, social media users, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information through credible and official sources before publishing or sharing reports.
It warned that the deliberate spread of unverified information not only misleads the public but also creates needless fear, undermines public confidence and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for students across the country.
The Ministry appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and continue to have confidence in the safety of their children, insisting that there is no security threat at Federal Government Girls’ College, Monguno.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies, state governments and school managements to maintain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide, while promising to continue providing timely and accurate information through its official communication channels.
