The Federal Government has launched the Presidential Emergency Food and Nutrition Distribution in Zamfara State as part of the efforts to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), vulnerable households and crisis-affected communities. This was contained in a statement signed by Chinyere A. Ulasi, Head, Information and Public Relations Unit.
Representing the Honourable Minister, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. He conveyed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing citizens’ welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He stated that Nigeria currently hosts over 6.7 million IDPs and more than 140,000 refugees, returnees, migrants, and asylum seekers, with Zamfara accounting for over 298,000 displaced persons due to insecurity and communal conflicts.
He noted that the Ministry’s mandate extends beyond emergency relief to poverty reduction, resilience building, and sustainable recovery.
The Hon. Commissioner further noted that the NCFRMI has also resettled over 400 displaced persons in Gusau through a purpose-built community equipped with housing, healthcare, schools, security, and livelihood facilities.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, FMHAPR, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, represented by the Director, General Services of the Ministry, Auwalu Isa Gwangwazo, said the programme aligns with ongoing reforms to strengthen transparency, expand the national social register, and improve last-mile delivery to verified beneficiaries.
The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dauda Lawal, assured continued collaboration with the Federal Government to ensure fair and effective distribution of relief materials across the state.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from the humanitarian sector.
