The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking, effective development planning and results-driven implementation. This was contained in a statement signed by Julie Osagie-Jacobs, Director, Information and Public Relations.
While delivering a keynote address during the 2026 National Association of Evaluators Conference, held in Abuja recently, Sen. Bagudu described evaluation as a critical instrument for translating Nigeria’s development ambition into tangible results in the lives of citizens.
He charged participants to extend their focus beyond policy formulation, but also ensure that development plans deliver measurable and sustainable results as this helps in achieving Nigeria’s ambition of building a US$1 trillion economy by 2030 and advancing Nigeria’s Agenda 2050 while implementing the National Development Plan (NDP) 2026–2030.
He maintained that Nigeria’s ambition to achieve a US$1 trillion economy by 2030, advance Nigeria Agenda 2050 and successfully implement the National Development Plan 2026–2030 must be accompanied by sustained commitment to effective implementation and strategic deployment of resources.
According to him, these national aspirations, alongside the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requires effective institutions, strategic resource allocation, coordinated implementation and a clear understanding of development outcomes. He said, “For these interventions to deliver sustainable results, they must reflect local circumstances, complement existing investments and address genuine development needs”.
The Minister appreciated the National Association of Evaluators for providing a platform for constructive engagement on the role of evaluation in national development and expressed confidence that the conference deliberations would contribute to strengthening the country’s capacity to translate development priorities into meaningful and sustainable results for citizens.
He therefore called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders and citizens as he reiterated the importance of accountability and measurable results to improve the quality of evidence available for development planning and implementation.
