The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Barr. Mohammed Goronyo, Esq., on November 17, 2025, received a high-level delegation from CGGC Global PLC at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja. This was contained in a statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Information and Public Relations.

He was joined by the Director of Human Resource Management, representing the Permanent Secretary, as well as other Directors and senior staff of the Ministry, and the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, accompanied by senior FERMA officials.

The Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, CON, was ably represented by the Minister of State, Barr. Goronyo, formally welcomed the visiting team.

The delegation was led by Mr. He Yongjun, Vice President of CGGC Global PLC. He was accompanied by Mr. Song Yunwu (Security Director), Ms. Tian Yimeng (Director, Africa Marketing Department), Mr. Peng Changbing (Director, Project Management Department), and other senior officials of the corporation.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of State underscored the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s road infrastructure through enhanced technical capacity, modern engineering practices, and global best-practice solutions. He proposed key areas of collaboration, including:

Training opportunities for Nigerian engineers in China

Provision of modern road construction and maintenance equipment

Transfer of advanced road technologies and methodologies to support local adaptation and long-term sustainability

Responding, the Vice President of CGGC, Mr. He Yongjun, expressed the company’s strong interest in contributing to Nigeria’s infrastructure development. He requested direct access to project opportunities, though he expressed reservations about participating through the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) framework — which remains the officially approved and transparent process for government contract acquisition.

The meeting ended on a positive and constructive note. Both parties agreed to establish a joint technical committee to assess the Ministry’s requests alongside the company’s proposals and to outline a clear framework for cooperation. They also resolved to reconvene at a later date to review progress and determine actionable next steps.

The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirms its commitment to forging strategic international partnerships that expand national capacity, promote technology transfer, and accelerate the development of modern, resilient, and sustainable road infrastructure across Nigeria.
