Goodluck Presidential Support Campaign Group, a coalition of concerned citizens and patriots, has called on former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, to offer himself for the 2027 Presidential Election.
According to the group, their action was informed by a genuine desire for the progress, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria. Furthermore, the group noted that they were united by a shared commitment to national renewal and a firm belief that Nigeria must move forward with purpose, stability, and inclusive leadership.
This was contained in an address delivered by Comrade Jeff Okoi, Director General of the coalition, during a world press briefing convened to formally articulate the group’s collective position on the future leadership of Nigeria.
His words: ” Today marks a defining moment in our national journey – a moment that calls for reflection, courage, and decisive action. Our nation stands at a critical juncture, confronted by serious challenges that demand experienced leadership, national unity, economic revitalisation, and restored global confidence. These are not ordinary times: they require a leader with proven capacity, calm disposition, and a clear vision for national renewal. It is against this compelling backdrop that we gather to make a solemn and patriotic declaration-a declaration not only of hope but of urgency to rescue Nigeria from the grip of uncertainty, division, stagnation and to restore her to the path of stability, progress and shared prosperity “.
In addition, the Director General stated: “Following extensive consultations across all geopolitical zones and meaningful engagement with critical stakeholders, the Goodluck Presidential Support Campaign Group (GPSCG), in alignment with millions of well-meaning Nigerians, hereby formally calls on His Excellency, Dr. Good luck, Ebele Jonathan, to answer the call of history and offer himself for the 2027 Presidential Election of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is a call for national redemption-an earnest appeal for the return of purposeful, stabilising, and people-centred leadership capable of rescuing our nation at this critical time. ”
Similarly, he stressed that “This call is not driven by sentiment, but by conviction-anchored on competence, experience, and a verifiable record of leadership.
According to Comrade Jeff Okoi, Dr. Jonathan remains a stateman of uncommon humility, a symbol of democratic stability, and a respected global ambassador of peace. He said: “His leadership was defined by respect for the rule of law, the strengthening of democratic institutions, and a historic commitment to peace and national unity that elevated Nigeria’s standing in the international community. His legacy continues to stand as a benchmark for responsible, selfless, and accountable leadership.”
The Director-General of Goodluck Presidential Support Campaign Group further noted: ” At a time when our nation seeks unity across ethnic, religious, and political divides, his leadership offers a credible bridge of trust, reconciliation, and national rebirth-qualities essential to rescuing Nigeria from its present challenges.”
Comrade Okoi also stressed: “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, fellow Nigerians, the growing concerns about the narrowing of democratic space and the concentration of political power must not be ignored. Democracy thrives on inclusiveness, healthy competition, and fairness-nit suppression. Nigeria must remain a nation where every voice counts, and every aspiration finds expression within a just and equitable political system.
He further digressed: “Nigeria needs a leader who understands governance, appreciates our diversity, and commands both national legitimacy and international respect. We require leadership that will prioritize economic recovery, strengthen national security, empower our youth, and drive meaningful institutional reforms necessary to rescue and reposition our nation. Dr. Good luck Ebele Jonathan embodies these qualities-steady in leadership, inclusive in approach, and committed to national unity and progress.
Comrade Okoi also stated: “Through this call, we are not merely presenting a candidate-we are advancing a clear and compelling national vision: a united and indivisible Nigeria; a nation rescued from despair and restored to hope and shared prosperity; and a future anchored on integrity, inclusiveness and accountable leadership.
While rallying all Nigerians to embrace the patriotic call on Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to contest the 2027 Presidential Election, Comrade Jeff Okoi said: “We therefore call on all well-meaning Nigerians-across party lines, regions, and ideologies-to rise above division and join this noble and historic movement to rebuild, reposition, and rescue our nation for future generations.
“We also use this medium to formally communicate to political stakeholders, electoral institutions and the international community that this position reflects the collective aspiration of Nigerians committed to credible leadership and genuine national transformation.”
He further urged the media to uphold the highest standards of professionalism-truth, fairness, and national interest.
In conclusion, Comrade Okoi stated: ” The Goodluck Presidential Support Campaign Group stands resolute, united, and fully mobilized to ensure that this vision of rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria becomes a reality in 2027. Nigeria shall rise again.
Again, in his own submissions, a member of the coalition, Bob Clifford Ofunne and convener of The True Democrats lamented the fact that Nigeria has been made prostrate by the activities of unpatriotic politicians. He said he can not discuss the present state of the nation without shedding tears. According to Ofunne, all hope is not lost, Nigeria is redeemable if only all Nigerians resolve to work in concert to bring about a credible government that will rescue the nation.
Another member of the Goodluck Presidential Support Campaign Group, and it national Secretary, Mr. Ben. Onwionoko who also happen to be BOT Chairman of the Nigerian Youth for Democracy also noted that the task to rescue Nigeria should be a collective responsibility of all Nigerians.
