The Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, PhD, today in Abuja held an interactive meeting with the Federal Controllers of Housing from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to review field operations, discuss challenges affecting project implementation, and strengthen coordination towards improved service delivery across the country. This was contained in a statement signed by Badamasi S. Haiba, Fsca, mnipr, Director, Press, and Public Relations.
During the meeting, the Minister presented his key policy directions and vision for the Ministry and the housing sector in general, urging the Federal Controllers to key into the realisation of the Ministry’s objectives.
The Minister called for a regulated, highly coordinated and responsible housing sector, with all key players and stakeholders working together to enable the sector justify its ranking in terms of its contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in line with statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which ranked the real estate sector as the third-largest contributor to the economy.
Darma charged the Controllers to position themselves professionally and discharge their duties diligently to enable the Ministry deliver on its presidential priorities and ministerial mandates.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore addressed and clarified the issues raised by the Controllers and instructed them to always adhere to established administrative and communication procedures in their dealings with the Ministry to ensure effective service delivery.
The Minister emphasised that the Ministry would ensure the effective implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The Federal Controllers of Housing are the Ministry’s field representatives across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Among their primary functions are project supervision, management of Federal Government assets, intergovernmental coordination and liaison, as well as providing regular field updates and performance evaluations to the Ministry’s headquarters.
