The Labour Party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its planned timetable for the 2026 elective congresses and national convention.

In a letter dated March 31, 2026, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, the party outlined a comprehensive schedule for its ward, local government area (LGA), and state congresses, culminating in a national convention.

The notification was jointly signed by the party’s Caretaker National Chairman, Nenadi Esther Usman, and Caretaker National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha. The party stated that the exercise is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), INEC guidelines, and the 1999 Constitution.

According to the timetable, ward congresses will be held nationwide on April 23, 2026, followed by LGA congresses on April 24. State congresses are scheduled for April 25 across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The party further disclosed that its National Convention will take place on April 28, 2026, at the International Conference Centre Umuahia, where national executives are expected to be elected.

The Labour Party explained that the revised schedule follows an earlier postponement aimed at ensuring broader participation of members, particularly to allow for the completion of its ongoing digital membership registration.

It also urged INEC to acknowledge the notification and direct its state offices to monitor the congresses and convention in line with its statutory responsibilities.

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the party emphasized its dedication to transparent and credible internal processes.
