The Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, has inspected projects in Maiduguri, Borno State, undertaken by the North East Development Commission, including the Jere Bowl Road network and electric vehicles comprising buses, tricycles, and taxis, as well as charging infrastructure under construction before their commissioning. This was contained in a statement signed by Sani Datti, Head, Information and Public Relations.

The Minister also visited the nearly completed NEDC state office and the ongoing construction of the Corporate Headquarters in Maiduguri. He stated he was in the state primarily to inspect the electric vehicle purchased by the commission, which is one of the major projects approved by the Federal Executive Council and is scheduled for commissioning soon.

He mentioned that, as the supervising ministry, it is appropriate for him to assess what has been achieved on the ground so that Mr President can be invited for the commissioning. “I’m impressed today as we aren’t disappointed to see this project is seeing the light of the day; nearly ten thousand E-vehicles and tricycles are nearly assembled,” said the Minister.

Engr. Momoh added that the road network in Jere Bowl Road, spanning 22.5 km; Ngwom-Kashebe Road, covering 10.5 km; Gongulong-Zabarmari-Khaddamar Road, stretching over 8.5 km; and Galameri-Dasuman Road, spanning 3.5 km, has been completed. These roads are located in Jere/Mafa LGA, Borno State, and economic activities have been revived in that corridor, enhancing the livelihoods of those affected by the insurgency; they are also now able to evacuate their agricultural produce to the city centre.

During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Mary Ada Ogbe, officials of the Ministry of Regional Development, the NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, and NEDC management staff to the project sites. The Minister commended the Managing Director, board members, and management staff of the NEDC for their commendable work.
