The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) will this week commence a series of empowerment and capacity-building programmes in Kano State aimed at equipping women, youths, and students with practical skills for economic advancement and self-reliance.

The programmes, to be led by the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu forms part of the Agency’s commitment to promoting innovation, renewable energy adoption, entrepreneurship, STEM education, and sustainable livelihoods across Nigeria.

The first event, the Closing Ceremony of the NASENI She-Powers Energy Initiative, will hold on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Kano. The initiative trained 50 women from Kumbotso and Tarauni Local Government Areas on solar installation, maintenance, renewable energy systems, and enterprise development, preparing them to participate in the growing clean energy economy.

The women underwent intensive practical training designed to enhance their technical capacity and create new opportunities for income generation through renewable energy services within their communities.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, NASENI will officially flag off its Skill Acquisition Training Programmes also in Kano.

The programme will provide training and empowerment opportunities in solar installation and maintenance, welding and metal fabrication, mobile phone hardware repairs, and dry food processing and packaging. It also includes the provision of laptops and STEM innovation kits to selected schools to support science and technology education.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State is expected as Special Guest of Honour at the flag-off ceremony, while Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu will serve as Chief Host.

The interventions are aimed at strengthening local capacity, promoting innovation, creating employment opportunities, and supporting inclusive economic growth in Kano State.

The Agency noted that the programmes reflect its broader mandate of leveraging science, technology, and innovation to improve lives, empower communities, and drive Nigeria’s industrial development.
