The Anambra State Police Command today 16th June 2026 received the Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc (+) NPM represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of South east, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, on an operational tour of the South-East geopolitical zone. The tour is aimed at strengthening security architecture, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering greater collaboration among security stakeholders. The visit which is ongoing within all the geopolitical zones of the country, underscores the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to improving national security through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and enhanced synergy among security agencies and critical stakeholders.
During the engagement, the DIG interacted with officers and men of the Command, emphasizing the need for developing practical intelligence-driven interventions tailored to the peculiar security challenges of Anambra and the wider South East. It also aims at preparing officers to embrace the future of policing through technology as artificial intelligence will be introduced into investigative processes and specialized courses on AI application for policing. Above all, the DIG charged the officers to uphold a robust, peoplecentric policing philosophy anchored on professionalism, accountability, and unwavering respect for human rights.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips PhD, while welcoming the DIG, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the vision of the Inspector-General of Police in deepening community-oriented policing and strengthening security across the State.
The operational tour further provided an avenue for strategic discussions with relevant stakeholders on holistic security management, intelligence sharing, crime prevention strategies, and coordinated responses to threats affecting the region.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its resolve to sustain robust engagement with all stakeholders and maintain effective security measures that will continue to promote peace, safety, and socio-economic development in Anambra State and the South-East region at large.
