The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has successfully received 100 Nigerian returnees from Algeria under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) programme, facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government.
The returnees arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at approximately 14:40 hours aboard an Air Algerie flight (registration number 7T-VJT). The group comprised 96 adults — 77 males and 19 females — and four infants, evenly split between males and females.
Officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate records and facilitate smooth reintegration into the country.
In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to safe, dignified, and humane returns, the returnees were provided with humanitarian support, including food, portable water, medical care, ambulance services, luggage handling, and counselling to ensure a seamless and well-coordinated reception.
The operation was coordinated by NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office in partnership with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and facilitating their reintegration.
