The Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and the Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Wang Wentao, today, signed a Framework Agreement guided on Economic Partnership for Shared Development. This was contained in a statement signed by Obilor-Duru Augustina Okechi, Head, Press, and Public Relations, FMITI.
The Agreement establishes a non-binding and flexible framework to guide future negotiations and cooperation between both countries. It identifies four priority areas for engagement, namely: trade facilitation, inclusive and green growth, resilient supply chains, and the digital economy. Specific modules will be advanced based on mutual agreement in due course.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole stated:
“This Agreement provides a structured yet flexible platform for deepening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China in areas critical to our national development priorities.”
“For Nigeria, trade is not about blocs or ideology—it is about delivering real outcomes for our people. Our engagement is guided by the imperative of industrialization, job creation, and export diversification aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR”
“We will continue to explore and pursue partnerships that strengthen Nigeria’s position in regional and global value chains while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth.”
The Agreement is part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to expand trade and investment partnerships, enhance competitiveness, and position the country as a leading economic hub within Africa, in alignment with continental initiatives.
