The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatuji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in the fight against human trafficking and organized crime.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP made this known on 21st April 2026 when he received the Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, OON, on a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting was attended by a distinguished delegation from NAPTIP, comprising Hassan Tahir (Special Adviser to the DG), Hakeem Lawal (Director, ICT), Mohammed Tamim (Director, Finance & Administration), Aondona Ortese (Director, Investigation), Emuesiriere Rebecca (Director, Violence Against Persons and Human Development), and Nneka A. Ajie (Director, Legal and Prosecution).
During the visit, the DG of NAPTIP congratulated the IGP on his leadership and expressed appreciation for the Nigeria Police Force’s sustained support. She called for deeper collaboration, particularly in specialized technical assistance and joint operational frameworks, to strengthen the agency’s capacity to effectively deliver on its mandate.
In his response, the Inspector-General of Police reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to provide full operational and intelligence support to NAPTIP. He emphasized a shift toward intelligence-led policing, including enhanced joint operations, deployment of liaison officers, and real-time intelligence sharing aimed at dismantling organized trafficking networks.
The IGP further pledged the support of specialized police units such as the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), alongside capacity-building initiatives and specialized training for NAPTIP personnel within police training institutions.
He assured that regular strategic briefings would be institutionalized to track progress and sustain momentum in the partnership, stressing that the collaboration reflects a zero-tolerance approach to human trafficking and related transnational crimes, ensuring perpetrators have no safe haven within Nigeria.
