Troops of the 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tsafe, have rescued 33 passengers who were abducted by terrorists while travelling through Magazu Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue operation took place at about 8:15 a.m. on August 8, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the troops regarding the abduction of passengers in the area.
According to military sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and established contact with the terrorists, who were already moving the abducted passengers towards an unknown destination.
The troops immediately engaged the terrorists, putting them under effective fire and forcing them to abandon the kidnapped passengers and flee into adjoining bushes.
The 33 passengers were subsequently rescued by the troops and secured for further necessary action.
Following the successful rescue, the soldiers commenced an exploitation of the surrounding area while pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
The operation was conducted without any casualty on the part of the troops, with the Nigerian Army confirming that no soldier was killed during the encounter.
The latest operation underscores the continued efforts by troops of the Nigerian Army to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and rescue persons abducted along vulnerable routes in Zamfara State.
Security forces are expected to sustain the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists as efforts continue to prevent further attacks and improve the safety of commuters across the affected areas.
