The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have activated coordinated cybersecurity measures following concerns affecting aspects of the Commission’s digital systems.
In a statement by the Director, Corporate Communications and Media Relations Department of NITDA, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, the agencies said response and assurance mechanisms have been deployed in line with national cybersecurity frameworks to safeguard critical infrastructure and ensure the integrity of public services.
As part of the intervention, NITDA directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to urgently strengthen their cybersecurity controls in compliance with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021.
The agency specifically instructed MDAs to review and reinforce their cybersecurity architecture to address emerging threats targeting government platforms and sensitive data.
Under the directive, MDAs are to conduct comprehensive security assessments, identify and fix vulnerabilities, and tighten access controls across critical systems.
They are also required to strengthen data protection measures, maintain reliable backup and disaster recovery systems, and enhance monitoring capabilities to detect and respond swiftly to suspicious activities.
NITDA further emphasised the need for functional incident response frameworks, including prompt reporting of cyber breaches to enable coordinated action across government institutions.
The agency noted that detailed cybersecurity guidelines have already been issued to MDAs as part of ongoing efforts to improve resilience and safeguard Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
The measures, according to the agency, are aimed at strengthening the overall security posture of government institutions and ensuring the protection of national digital assets.
NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting public sector organisations in implementing cybersecurity best practices and protecting critical systems against evolving threats.
