The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commended Google, Microsoft, and TikTok for their continued compliance with Nigeria’s Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms/Internet Intermediaries, jointly developed with NCC and NBC.

NITDA gave the commendation in a 2024 report released on Wednesday.

Key Highlights from the 2024 Reports include: Registered complaints: 754,629

Content takedowns: 58,909,112

Content reuploaded after appeal: 420,439 and closed/deactivated accounts: 13,597,057.

These figures, the agency said, reflect significant efforts by the platforms to tackle harmful content and prioritize user safety, aligned with their community guidelines and Nigerian regulations.

It, therefore, applauded the platforms for their transparency and commitment.

NITDA reaffirmed that platforms must be registered in Nigeria and meet legal/tax obligations.

It emphasized ongoing collaboration with industry, civil society, and regulators to:

Strengthen user safety,

Improve digital literacy and

Build trust and transparency in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
