For residents of Unguwan Gardago Village in Kaduna State, what began as another terrifying encounter with armed terrorists ended with a desperate race to escape. After robbing residents and abducting a civilian to guide their withdrawal, the attackers soon found themselves confronted by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, who had moved into position along their escape route and forced them to flee.
During the operation on September 10, troops recovered three motorcycles and other stolen items, alongside a PKT machine gun working mechanism and components of a pump-action firearm. But amid the success was a painful loss: the abducted civilian was killed by his captors, and his body was later recovered and handed over to his relatives.
A day later, along the Anka-Gummi Road in Zamfara State, another group of terrorists attacked a Canter vehicle and kidnapped passengers. Troops intervened, forcing the attackers to abandon their victims and flee. Three kidnapped persons were rescued, while terrorist communication equipment was recovered.
The two operations underscore the human stakes in the ongoing fight against terrorism across the North-West—where swift intervention can mean the difference between captivity and freedom, even as communities continue to face the devastating consequences of violence. The Joint Task Force has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
