Sokoto welcomes Nigeria as the 15th National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development opens today at the Al-Mustapha Hall, Sokoto Guest Inn, Sokoto State. This was contained in a statement signed by Adamu Aminu, SA Media to the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The Council will be chaired by the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, PhD, and co-chaired by the Honourable Minister of State, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, with the Permanent Secretary, Shuaib M. L. Belgore, as Chairman of the Technical Session.
Scheduled to hold from 12th to 16th October, 2026, the Council brings together federal and state policymakers, mortgage institutions, land administrators and private developers to shape the future of housing delivery in Nigeria.
This year’s theme, “Strengthening Mortgage, Land and Institutional Systems for Accelerated and Inclusive Housing Delivery,” speaks directly to the core barriers facing affordable housing.
The meeting will examine how to deepen mortgage access, reform land systems, strengthen institutions, and translate the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates vision into homes that Nigerians can truly afford.
For Sokoto State, hosting this Council reaffirms its commitment to urban development. For the nation, it is another step toward better housing, stronger communities, and greater Nigeria.
