Tuggar Advocates for African Solutions as a game Changer for empowering Africa’s future

The Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has emphasised the need for African-led democratic solutions in West Africa, to share experiences, develop best practices, and support each other in their democratic endeavors.

Tuggar who disclosed this at the Stakeholder Engagement Roundtable on the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD) with West African member states Informed that the approach prioritises African solutions to African challenges, fostering regional cooperation and unity, strengthen democracy in the region.

According to him, RPD is a collaborative effort aimed at promoting democratic governance, citizen participation, and human rights, strategic autonomy, economic diplomacy, and sustainable development in navigating global uncertainty.

The MFA Minister also stressed the significance of functional local governance in tackling insurgency and promoting regional stability.

He noted that credible elections and efficient local administration are crucial in preventing the collapse of governance, which can create vacuums that extremist groups can exploit.

Tuggar highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and cooperation, particularly within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

He emphasised the need for standardized grading of positions, expedited completion of skills audits, and competency assessments within the African Union.

In his interactions with various stakeholders, including the House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, the MFA Minister underscored Nigeria’s commitment to driving economic growth, security, and unity across the continent.

Recall that Tuggar’s vision for Nigeria’s foreign policy is centred around “4D Diplomacy,” which encompasses development, democracy, demography, and diaspora.

By leveraging diplomacy over force, Nigeria aimed to safeguard national interests while promoting democratic values and multilateral engagement.

By working together, West African countries can create a more prosperous and stable region, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and equitable world order.
