Balarabe Solicits for Inter-Agency Collaborations to Tackle Environmental Challenges

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has called for inter-agency collaborations to tackle environmental challenges in the Country.

The Minister made the call when he received the Director-General, National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) Abubakar Sadiq and his entourage in his office, in Abuja. This was contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Haruna, Director, Information and Public Relations.

Balarabe highlighted areas of collaborations which includes, climate resilient water supply and sanitation (WASH), programme that will ensure a year-round access to safe, reliable, clean water and sanitation services in the dam-affected the communities.

According to him, collaboration would further boost access to safe drinking water and reduced water-borne diseases in the affected communities.

In the area of energy saving clean cooking, the Minister disclosed that distribution of clean cooking stoves to Households in hydro-basin communities would drastically reduced household energy poverty, deforestation and emissions through the adoption of energy efficient cooking technologies for households and agro-processing clusters across the country.

Other areas of collaborations between the Ministry and commission include erosion and flood management, ecosystem restoration and climate resilience, afforestation Programme, youth and community engagements and job creation, and public awareness, among others.

In his opening remarks, the Director-General (N-HYPPADEC) Abubakar Sadiq described his commission as a strategic partner to the Federal Ministry of Environment in addressing (N-HYPPADEC) challenges in the country.

Abubakar used the medium to highlight the impactful interventions made so far by the commission across water supply, sanitation, housing, youth empowerment, water transport safety, and institutional strengthening.

He commended the Minister and his team for their quick intervention in flood warnings and prompt responses to the prone areas of erosion, flood challenges, and pollution management in the country.

(N-HYPPADEC) has offices in Lokoja, B/ Kebbi, Ilorin, Lafia, Jos, Gombe, Jalingo, Makurdi, Kaduna and The Head office in Minna, Niger State.
