The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Nigeria’s former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as an exemplary leader who embodied discipline, integrity, and commitment to national unity.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, General Musa, on behalf of the Service Chiefs and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), extended heartfelt sympathies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Buhari family, and the nation over what he called “a monumental loss of a revered elder statesman and gallant senior officer.”
He described the late President Buhari as a patriot whose legacy would remain etched in Nigeria’s history for his steadfast service in both military and democratic leadership.
“President Buhari was a symbol of dedication to national service,” the CDS said. “He fought tirelessly for the unity and indivisibility of our great country. His leadership, courage, and principles will continue to inspire generations of citizens.”
General Musa noted that the late leader’s reputation as an incorruptible public servant and a champion of prudence earned him admiration across the globe. He added that Buhari’s hallmark of zero tolerance for indiscipline, respect for the rule of law, and unwavering adherence to due process was a leadership style worthy of emulation.
“As a military officer, and later as a democratic President, he led with uncommon commitment, patriotism, and selflessness,” the CDS stated.
While praying for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul, the CDS also beseeched Almighty Allah to grant the bereaved family and the entire country the fortitude to bear the loss.
