The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has decorated the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the rank of Colonel, recognising what the Nigerian Army described as her “steadfast dedication and exemplary service.”
The decoration ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
In his remarks, the COAS commended the newly promoted Colonel for her professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty. He urged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue projecting the Army’s image “responsibly and credibly.”
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, the COAS highlighted the crucial role of public confidence in military success.
He called on the directorate to reinforce “transparent, accountable and timely communication” on Army activities, adding that strategic communication remains vital in boosting national trust in the Armed Forces.
He further charged Colonel Anele to maintain “the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and loyalty,” while mentoring her subordinates to strengthen the directorate’s capacity.
In her remarks, Colonel Anele expressed gratitude to Almighty God, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the COAS for what she described as their “visionary leadership, purposeful guidance and mentorship,” noting that these had been instrumental to her career progression.
The event was attended by senior officers, serving and retired, including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), as well as family members and well-wishers.
