The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, has called on employers of labour to be just and fair to their workers to avoid disharmony in the workplace. This was contained in a statement signed by Patience Onuobia, Head, Press and Public Relations.

He made the call when he received a team from Mobil Producing Nigeria, led by the Executive Director, Bala Aliyu.

Dangyadi observed that Nigerian workers are highly aware of their rights and resolute in advocating for them.

He urged employer organisations to foster inclusive relationships with their workers to ensure peace is maintained and targets are met.

Dangyadi noted that industrial harmony in both the public and the private sectors would stand the country in good economic stead, as it would propel the workforce to be more productive.

The Minister commended Mobil Nigeria for desiring to partner with the Ministry in matters of industrial harmony, as the Ministry works to perform its functions of creating job opportunities and maintaining industrial harmony in the country

Dingyadi said: “We look forward to working in collaboration with you to keep maintaining industrial harmony in the country and protecting the welfare of the nation’s workforce, and ultimately ensuring the economic growth of the country.

“As you are aware, we are here to ensure jobs are created, as well as to ensure that there is industrial peace in both the public and the private sectors.

“So, we want to thank you most sincerely, and we will be ready and willing to work together with you, particularly on matters that relate to cordial and good working relationships between our workers and employers.”

Earlier, the team from Mobil Producing Nigeria had congratulated the Minister on his well-deserved appointment, acknowledging his suitability for the role, given his impressive track record in public service.

The Executive Director, Bala Aliyu, appreciated the support the oil and gas-producing sector had always received from the Ministry over the years on labour issues.

According to him, “We are here basically to appreciate your appointment and to reach out as you settle into this role and also lend support for you and your leadership team, as well as the programmes you will do during your time in this ministry, sir.”

Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, John Nyamali, commended Mobil Producing Nigeria for their significant role in maintaining industrial harmony in the oil and gas sector.
