The Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has issued retraction for the article titled “Belgian Envoy Promises Improve Bilateral Ties With Nigeria.

DICAN regrets that the article was erroneously credited to the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt. We acknowledge that the statements attributed to Ambassador Leenknegt were not accurately represented.

The article in question reported on a supposed meeting between Ambassador Leenknegt and a delegation from DICAN, where he allegedly expressed disapproval of a certain political situation and criticized the standard of journalism in Nigeria.

However, DICAN has since confirmed that the meeting only discussed how to strengthen DICAN-Belgium relations, Other statements credited to the Ambassador were not as reported.

DICAN apologises for any embarrassment or inconvenience this error may have caused the Embassy of Belgium in Nigeria, Ambassador Leenknegt, and other parties involved.

We are committed to accuracy and fairness in our reporting and strive to prevent such mistakes in the future. Our organization values the trust and confidence of our readers and partners, and we are taking steps to ensure that our reporting meets the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.

We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our readers and partners in this matter, and we look forward to continuing to provide accurate and informative reporting in the future.
