The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and recovery of vulnerable Nigerians during a visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kuchingoro, Abuja, as part of activities marking the birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. This was contained in a statement signed by Janet McDickson Noah, Director, Information and Public Relations, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Poverty Reduction.
In his welcome remarks and overview of the camp, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed disclosed that the Kuchingoro IDP camp was established in 2014 and currently hosts 261 households with an estimated population of about 1,500 individuals, largely from Gwoza in Borno State and parts of Adamawa State.
He expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister for the impactful interventions recorded within a short period of assumption of office, describing his efforts as timely and commendable.
The Commissioner further noted that, all households in the camp would benefit from the distribution of food items, while 50 elderly women would receive beddings, mats, and blankets, and 50 selected students would benefit from writing materials to support their education. He also highlighted the compassionate leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and called for continued support for the administration.
Delivering his remarks, the Honourable Minister, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, emphasized that the visit reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to remain connected to vulnerable citizens, noting that, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, humanitarian interventions must go beyond temporary relief to creating pathways for long-term stability and self-reliance.
He encouraged residents of the camp to remain hopeful and resilient, assuring them that government efforts are focused on ensuring that displaced persons are supported not only to survive but to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
The Honourable Minister called on the residents to continue to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, and success in addressing the nation’s challenges. He noted that, with sustained leadership and collective support, citizens will be able to overcome their current difficulties and attain more stable and fulfilling lives.
He further urged the residents to continue supporting government efforts, reassuring them that the leadership remains committed to ensuring the welfare and security of all Nigerians.
The visit was further marked by a moment of unity as members of the IDP community joined in wishing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a happy birthday, offering prayers for wisdom, strength, and continued success in leading the nation.
The visit also featured the official flag-off of the distribution of relief materials to the camp, with items formally handed over to the female leader of the IDP community, symbolizing inclusivity and community ownership in the distribution process.
As part of the intervention, the Honourable Minister announced a cash support of ₦10,000 each to 300 households, alongside the distribution of various food items aimed at providing immediate relief to affected families.
Also speaking, the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Sharon Dimanche, commended the initiative, noting that such interventions underscore the importance of sustained collaboration in addressing the needs of displaced populations, while reaffirming IOM’s continued commitment to supporting the Federal Government in delivering durable solutions for vulnerable communities.
The visit underscores the Federal Government’s broader commitment to delivering both immediate humanitarian assistance and long-term solutions that enable displaced persons to transition from vulnerability to stability and self-reliance.
