As a way of facilitating sustainable development at the sub-national level, the federal government has entered into a strategic partnership with the Taraba State Government. The Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Regional Development Uba Maigari Ahmadu, disclosed this Friday in Abuja when he hosted the Executive Governor of Taraba State H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas on a working visit. This was contained in a statement signed by Abdulrashid Y. Safana, Head, Press, and Public Relations Unit.

While expressing total commitment to the terms of the partnership, the minister emphasised that his ministry has a lot to offer for the socio-economic growth and development of Taraba State.

Maigari Ahmadu revealed that collaboration with relevant bodies is part of the assigned roles of his ministry, especially in the area of supporting the subnationals to achieve significant progress in the environment, housing, infrastructure, education, and health sectors and expressed the hope that the collaboration would boost road infrastructure development to open up easy communication among the local communities and facilitate speedy evacuation of farm produce, thereby boosting economic activities and improving livelihoods.

The Minister assured that with the level of commitment to bring about positive changes in the state as exhibited by the governor, the partnership would no doubt push up the performance decibel in Taraba State.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, H.E. Dr. Agbu Kefas stated that his visit to the ministry was informed by the desire “to collaborate for a stronger synergy to see that our people live the life they deserve.”

Dr. Kefas described Maigari Ahmadu as “a team worker with innovative ideas” and also committed to supporting the partnership with the needed resources available at his disposal to ensure the best for his people.

In her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Tinuke Watti stated that the meeting signifies the importance of synergy in achieving sustainable regional development and expressed the ministry’s eagerness “to explore more avenues for mutual cooperation.” She also underscored the ministry’s dedication to supporting state governments in initiatives that promote inclusive development, infrastructure expansion, and economic prosperity.

In attendance during the meeting were the speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Kizito John Benzena and the Managing Director North-East Development Commission, Mohammed G. Alkali, amongst others.

The meeting signifies yet another milestone in the strategic moves by the ministry to institute all the necessary mechanisms to achieve a seamless delivery of its mandate – ensuring the sustainable growth and development of the constituent regions of the country.
